HardOriginal question

Options for question 24

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. In 5 days together: 512\frac{5}{12} done, leaving 712\frac{7}{12}.

  2. Manoj does 712\frac{7}{12} in 21 days, so his rate is 712÷21=136\frac{7}{12} \div 21 = \frac{1}{36} per day.

  3. Rehana's rate = 112−136=236=118\frac{1}{12} - \frac{1}{36} = \frac{2}{36} = \frac{1}{18}.

  4. Rehana alone takes 18 days.

Worth noting

36 days is Manoj's time, not Rehana's. 28 days comes from treating Manoj's 21 days as the whole job instead of the remaining seven-twelfths.
