CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Acid now: 0.25×20=50.25 \times 20 = 5 litres. Adding aa litres of pure acid: 5+a=0.4(20+a)5 + a = 0.4(20 + a).

  2. 5+a=8+0.4a5 + a = 8 + 0.4a, so 0.6a=30.6a = 3 and a=5a = 5 litres.

Worth noting

3 litres raises the acid to 8 litres but forgets that the added acid also increases the total.
