Area of Bounded Regions · Question 3 of 115

Question 3

EasyOriginal question

Which integral gives the area of the region bounded by y=3−xy = 3 - x and the two coordinate axes?

Options for question 3

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. The line meets the axes at (3,0)(3, 0) and (0,3)(0, 3), and lies above the xx-axis between them.

  2. Area =∫03(3−x) dx= \int_0^{3} (3 - x)\,dx.

Worth noting

∫03(x−3) dx\int_0^{3} (x - 3)\,dx subtracts the wrong way round and comes out negative.
