Question 16

HardOriginal question

What is ddx∫0x2cos⁡t dt\frac{d}{dx}\int_0^{x^2} \cos t\,dt?

Options for question 16

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. The integral is sin⁡(x2)\sin(x^2), since ∫0ucos⁡t dt=sin⁡u\int_0^u \cos t\,dt = \sin u.

  2. By the chain rule its derivative is cos⁡(x2)⋅2x\cos(x^2) \cdot 2x.

Worth noting

cos⁡(x2)\cos(x^2) puts the upper limit into the integrand but forgets the derivative of the limit, 2x2x.
