Question 48

EasyOriginal question

A curve is given by x=t2+1x = t^{2} + 1, y=t3y = t^{3}. What is its slope dydx\frac{dy}{dx} at t=2t = 2?

Options for question 48

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. dxdt=2t\frac{dx}{dt} = 2 t and dydt=3t2\frac{dy}{dt} = 3 t^{2}.

  2. dydx=dy/dtdx/dt=3t2\frac{dy}{dx} = \frac{dy/dt}{dx/dt} = \frac{3 t}{2}.

  3. At t=2t = 2 the slope is 33.

Worth noting

Dividing the other way round gives dxdy\frac{dx}{dy}.
