Question 59

EasyOriginal question

What is ddx(e3log⁡x)\frac{d}{dx}\left(e^{3\log x}\right) for x>0x > 0?

Options for question 59

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. e3log⁡x=elog⁡x3=x3e^{3\log x} = e^{\log x^{3}} = x^{3} for x>0x > 0.

  2. So the derivative is 3x23x^{2}; the chain rule gives the same, e3log⁡x⋅3x=x3⋅3xe^{3\log x} \cdot \frac{3}{x} = x^{3} \cdot \frac{3}{x}.

Worth noting

x3x^{3} is e3log⁡xe^{3\log x} itself: it stops before multiplying by the inner derivative 3x\frac{3}{x}.
