CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. ddxtan⁡x=sec⁡2x\frac{d}{dx}\tan x = \sec^2 x and ddxcot⁡x=−cosec⁡2x\frac{d}{dx}\cot x = -\operatorname{cosec}^2 x.

  2. So ∫sec⁡2x dx=tan⁡x\int \sec^2 x\,dx = \tan x and ∫cosec⁡2x dx=−cot⁡x\int \operatorname{cosec}^2 x\,dx = -\cot x: the sum is tan⁡x−cot⁡x+C\tan x - \cot x + C.

Worth noting

tan⁡x+cot⁡x\tan x + \cot x misses the minus sign: the derivative of cot⁡x\cot x is negative.
