Question 88

HardOriginal question

Evaluate ∫exsin⁡x dx\int e^{x}\sin x\,dx.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. By parts twice: I=exsin⁡x−∫excos⁡x dx=exsin⁡x−excos⁡x−II = e^{x}\sin x - \int e^{x}\cos x\,dx = e^{x}\sin x - e^{x}\cos x - I.

  2. So 2I=ex(sin⁡x−cos⁡x)2I = e^{x}(\sin x - \cos x) and I=ex(sin⁡x−cos⁡x)2+CI = \frac{e^{x}(\sin x - \cos x)}{2} + C.

Worth noting

ex(sin⁡x+cos⁡x)2\frac{e^{x}(\sin x + \cos x)}{2} differentiates to excos⁡xe^{x}\cos x, the other integral of the pair.
