CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Let them be n−1,n,n+1n - 1, n, n + 1: the squares add to 3n2+23n^2 + 2.

  2. 3n2+2=1103n^2 + 2 = 110, so n2=36n^2 = 36 and n=6n = 6.

  3. The numbers are 5, 6, 7 (check: 25+36+49=11025 + 36 + 49 = 110); their sum is 18.

Worth noting

Starting from the MIDDLE number makes the cross terms cancel, leaving 3n2+23n^2 + 2. The trap is answering 6, the middle number, or 36, its square.
