CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Product a×c=2×(−3)=−6a \times c = 2 \times (-3) = -6; split the middle term as −6x+x-6x + x.

  2. 2x2−6x+x−3=2x(x−3)+1(x−3)=(2x+1)(x−3)2x^2 - 6x + x - 3 = 2x(x - 3) + 1(x - 3) = (2x + 1)(x - 3).

  3. So x=3x = 3 or x=−12x = -\frac{1}{2}.

Worth noting

6 and −1-1 are the roots of x2−5x−6x^2 - 5x - 6: they come from forgetting that the leading coefficient is 2. −3-3 and 12\frac{1}{2} have both signs flipped.
