Question 9

MediumOriginal question

XOY is a straight line. Rays OP and OQ are drawn on the same side of it so that ∠XOP\angle XOP, ∠POQ\angle POQ and ∠QOY\angle QOY are in the ratio 3:4:53 : 4 : 5. What is ∠XOP\angle XOP?

CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. The three angles together make the straight angle XOY=180∘XOY = 180^\circ.

  2. Total parts = 3+4+5=123 + 4 + 5 = 12, so one part = 180∘÷12=15∘180^\circ \div 12 = 15^\circ.

  3. ∠XOP=3×15∘=45∘\angle XOP = 3 \times 15^\circ = 45^\circ.

Worth noting

60° and 75° are ∠POQ\angle POQ and ∠QOY\angle QOY. 90° comes from sharing 360° instead of 180°.
