CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. In a triangle, the two shorter sides must add up to MORE than the longest side.

  2. 3+4=73 + 4 = 7 is less than 8; 5+6=115 + 6 = 11 is less than 12; 2+9=112 + 9 = 11 only equals 11, so those sticks lie flat.

  3. 4+7=114 + 7 = 11 is more than 10, so 4 cm, 7 cm and 10 cm make a triangle.

Worth noting

Equal is not enough: when the two shorter sides add up to exactly the longest side, the 'triangle' collapses into a straight line.

Concept
Triangle inequality: the sum of any two sides exceeds the third
