Question 51

MediumOriginal question

A conical tent has a base radius of 7 m and a height of 24 m. How many metres of canvas 2 m wide are needed to make its curved surface? Take π=227\pi = \frac{22}{7}.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Slant height = 72+242=25\sqrt{7^2 + 24^2} = 25 m.

  2. Canvas area = πrl=227×7×25=550\pi r l = \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times 25 = 550 m².

  3. Length of canvas = area ÷ width = 550÷2=275550 \div 2 = 275 m.

Worth noting

264 m uses the height 24 m instead of the slant height. 550 is the area in m², not the length.
