CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Write the loss as −5%, and apply alligation to −5% and +15% around +9%.

  2. Loss part : profit part = (15−9)(15 - 9) : (9−(−5))=6:14=3:7(9 - (-5)) = 6 : 14 = 3 : 7.

  3. Quantity sold at a loss = 310×80=24\frac{3}{10} \times 80 = 24 kg.

Worth noting

Using +5% instead of −5% gives 6:46 : 4 and the wrong answer 48 kg. 56 kg is the quantity sold at a profit.
