Question 42

EasyOriginal question

Options for question 42

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Salt = 0.05×40=20.05 \times 40 = 2 kg, which stays the same.

  2. For 2 kg to be 8%, the total must be 20.08=25\frac{2}{0.08} = 25 kg.

  3. Water evaporated = 40−25=1540 - 25 = 15 kg.

Worth noting

25 kg is what remains, not what evaporates. 64 kg multiplies 40 by 8÷58 \div 5 — the right idea for adding water, backwards here.

Concept
Evaporation raises concentration; the solute stays constant
