Question 55

MediumOriginal question

Options for question 55

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. First mixture: milk = 34×20=15\frac{3}{4} \times 20 = 15, water = 5 litres.

  2. Second mixture: milk = 35×30=18\frac{3}{5} \times 30 = 18, water = 12 litres.

  3. Total: milk 33, water 17, so milk : water = 33:1733 : 17.

Worth noting

2:12 : 1 adds the ratio terms (3+3:1+2)(3 + 3 : 1 + 2), which ignores the volumes. 69:3169 : 31 swaps the two volumes.
