Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Say the rate is ₹1 per kg. For ₹1 he gets 1,200 g, so 1 g costs him ₹1/1200.

  2. For 800 g he collects ₹1, but 800 g cost him 800/1200800/1200 = ₹2/3.

  3. Gain % = 1−2323×100=50%\frac{1 - \frac{2}{3}}{\frac{2}{3}} \times 100 = 50\%.

Worth noting

Adding 20%+20%20\% + 20\% gives 40%, and 1.2×1.21.2 \times 1.2 gives 44%. The right factor is 1200÷800=1.51200 \div 800 = 1.5.
