CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Complete the square: (x−2)2+y2=16(x - 2)^{2} + y^{2} = 16, a circle of radius 4 with centre (2,0)(2, 0).

  2. Moving a region does not change its area: 2∫−2616−(x−2)2 dx=16π2\int_{-2}^{6} \sqrt{16 - (x - 2)^{2}}\,dx = 16\pi square units.

Worth noting

12π12\pi reads the constant 12 as the square of the radius before completing the square; it is 4+12=164 + 12 = 16.
