Question 20

MediumOriginal question

Evaluate ∫0π2sin⁡2xcos⁡x dx\int_{0}^{\frac{\pi}{2}} \sin^{2} x \cos x\,dx.

Options for question 20

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. An antiderivative is F(x)=sin⁡3x3F(x) = \frac{\sin^{3} x}{3}.

  2. By the fundamental theorem, the integral is F(π2)−F(0)=13F(\frac{\pi}{2}) - F(0) = \frac{1}{3}.

Worth noting

−13- \frac{1}{3} subtracts the wrong way, F(0)−F(π2)F(0) - F(\frac{\pi}{2}).
