Question 21

MediumOriginal question

Evaluate ∫012xx2+1 dx\int_{0}^{1} \frac{2 x}{x^{2} + 1}\,dx.

Options for question 21

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. An antiderivative is F(x)=log⁡(x2+1)F(x) = \log{\left(x^{2} + 1 \right)}.

  2. By the fundamental theorem, the integral is F(1)−F(0)=log⁡2F(1) - F(0) = \log 2.

Worth noting

−log⁡2- \log 2 subtracts the wrong way, F(0)−F(1)F(0) - F(1).
