Question 31

HardOriginal question

Evaluate ∫0π2xcos⁡x dx\int_{0}^{\frac{\pi}{2}} x \cos x\,dx.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. An antiderivative is F(x)=xsin⁡x+cos⁡xF(x) = x \sin x + \cos x.

  2. By the fundamental theorem, the integral is F(π2)−F(0)=−1+π2F(\frac{\pi}{2}) - F(0) = -1 + \frac{\pi}{2}.

Worth noting

π2\frac{\pi}{2} is F(π2)F(\frac{\pi}{2}) alone: F(0)F(0) was not subtracted.
