Question 52

EasyOriginal question

Which of these differential equations is NOT of the variables separable type?

Options for question 52

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Separable means dydx=g(x)h(y)\frac{dy}{dx} = g(x)h(y), a product of a function of xx and a function of yy.

  2. xyxy, xy\frac{x}{y} and exeye^{x}e^{y} are such products; x+yx + y is a sum and cannot be split this way.

Worth noting

exey=ex+ye^{x}e^{y} = e^{x + y} looks like a sum in the power, but it is a product of two functions.
