Question 3

EasyOriginal question

What is the range of tan⁡−1x\tan^{-1} x?

Options for question 3

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. tan⁡\tan is one-one on (−π2,π2)\left(-\frac{\pi}{2}, \frac{\pi}{2}\right) and takes every real value there.

  2. The ends are left out: tan⁡π2\tan \frac{\pi}{2} is not defined.

Worth noting

The closed interval wrongly takes in ±π2\pm\frac{\pi}{2}, where tan⁡\tan has no value.
