Question 48

MediumOriginal question

ABCD is a trapezium with AB parallel to DC. ∠A=65∘\angle A = 65^\circ and ∠B=50∘\angle B = 50^\circ. What is ∠C\angle C?

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. AB∥DCAB \parallel DC, and BC is a transversal, so ∠B\angle B and ∠C\angle C are co-interior angles: ∠B+∠C=180∘\angle B + \angle C = 180^\circ.

  2. ∠C=180∘−50∘=130∘\angle C = 180^\circ - 50^\circ = 130^\circ. (Similarly ∠D=180∘−65∘=115∘\angle D = 180^\circ - 65^\circ = 115^\circ.)

Worth noting

In a trapezium the angles along each non-parallel side add to 180°. ∠C\angle C pairs with ∠B\angle B, not with ∠A\angle A, so 115° is ∠D\angle D.
