CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Let the side be s. The part inside the path is a square of side s−2×1.5=s−3s - 2 \times 1.5 = s - 3.

  2. Path area = s2−(s−3)2=6s−9s^2 - (s - 3)^2 = 6s - 9.

  3. 6s−9=1656s - 9 = 165, so 6s=1746s = 174 and s=29s = 29 m. Check: 292−262=841−676=16529^2 - 26^2 = 841 - 676 = 165.

Worth noting

26 m is the side of the inner square, and also what you get by putting the path outside. 55.75 m forgets that the width is taken off both sides.
