Question 53

MediumOriginal question

A solid wooden cone has a base radius of 7 cm and a height of 24 cm. What is its total surface area, including the base? Take π=227\pi = \frac{22}{7}.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Slant height = 72+242=25\sqrt{7^2 + 24^2} = 25 cm.

  2. Total surface = πr(l+r)=227×7×(25+7)=22×32=704\pi r (l + r) = \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times (25 + 7) = 22 \times 32 = 704 cm².

Worth noting

550 cm² is the curved part alone. 682 cm² uses the height 24 cm in place of the slant height 25 cm, and 528 cm² does both.

Concept
Total surface area of a cone = πr(l + r)
