Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Sugar in the mixture = 0.34×25=8.50.34 \times 25 = 8.5 litres.

  2. Sugar from the first syrup = 0.40×15=60.40 \times 15 = 6 litres.

  3. Second syrup: 8.5−610=0.25\frac{8.5 - 6}{10} = 0.25, i.e. 25%.

Worth noting

28% assumes 34% is the simple average of the two strengths; the volumes are unequal. 10% divides the 2.5 litres of sugar by 25 litres instead of 10.
