CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Work in one day rather than in whole jobs. A does 112\frac{1}{12} of the work each day and B does 118\frac{1}{18}.

  2. Together they do 112+118=336+236=536\frac{1}{12} + \frac{1}{18} = \frac{3}{36} + \frac{2}{36} = \frac{5}{36} of the work per day.

  3. The whole job therefore takes 365=7.2\frac{36}{5} = 7.2 days.

Worth noting

The answer must be less than 12, the faster worker's time alone. Averaging the two times gives 15 days, which is longer than either of them working alone.
