Area of Bounded Regions · Question 62 of 115

Question 62

EasyOriginal question

The region bounded by the parabola x2=6yx^{2} = 6y and the line y=6y = 6 is found with vertical strips. Between which limits of xx is the integral taken?

CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. The line meets the parabola where x2=6×6=36x^{2} = 6 \times 6 = 36, so x=±6x = \pm 6.

  2. Between them the line lies above the parabola: ∫−66(6−x26)dx\int_{-6}^{6} \left(6 - \frac{x^{2}}{6}\right)dx.

Worth noting

±6\pm\sqrt{6} solves x2=6x^{2} = 6, forgetting that on y=6y = 6 the right side is 6×66 \times 6.
