Question 38

MediumOriginal question

If f(x)=sin⁡−1(x)f(x) = \sin^{-1}{\left(x \right)}, what is f′(12)f'\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)?

Options for question 38

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. ddxsin⁡−1x=11−x2\frac{d}{dx}\sin^{-1} x = \frac{1}{\sqrt{1 - x^{2}}}.

  2. At 12\frac{1}{2}: 13/4=23\frac{1}{\sqrt{3/4}} = \frac{2}{\sqrt{3}}.

Worth noting

32\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} is 1−x2\sqrt{1 - x^{2}} itself; the derivative is its reciprocal.
