Question 5

EasyOriginal question

Lines p and q are parallel, and a transversal crosses both. Two corresponding angles measure (2x+15)∘(2x + 15)^\circ and (3x−20)∘(3x - 20)^\circ. What is the size of each of these angles?

Options for question 5

CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Corresponding angles between parallel lines are equal: 2x+15=3x−202x + 15 = 3x - 20.

  2. So x=35x = 35.

  3. Each angle = 2×35+15=85∘2 \times 35 + 15 = 85^\circ.

Worth noting

35 is the value of xx, not the angle. 89° comes from wrongly adding the two angles to 180°.
