Question 51

MediumOriginal question

The five interior angles of a pentagon are x°, (x+20)∘(x + 20)^\circ, (x+40)∘(x + 40)^\circ, (x+60)∘(x + 60)^\circ and (x+80)∘(x + 80)^\circ. What is the largest angle?

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Angle sum of a pentagon = (5−2)×180∘=540∘(5 - 2) \times 180^\circ = 540^\circ.

  2. 5x+200=5405x + 200 = 540, so x=68x = 68.

  3. Largest angle = 68+80=148∘68 + 80 = 148^\circ.

Worth noting

68° is the smallest angle, and 108° is the interior angle of a REGULAR pentagon, which this is not.
