Options for question 46

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. ∫dxx2+a2=1atan⁡−1xa+C\int \frac{dx}{x^2 + a^2} = \frac{1}{a}\tan^{-1}\frac{x}{a} + C.

  2. Here a=4a = 4: 14tan⁡−1x4+C\frac{1}{4}\tan^{-1}\frac{x}{4} + C.

Worth noting

Without the factor 14\frac{1}{4} the derivative comes out 4 times too large.
