CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Complete the square: x2+2x+2=(x+1)2+1x^{2} + 2x + 2 = (x + 1)^{2} + 1.

  2. ∫dx(x+1)2+1=tan⁡−1(x+1)+C\int \frac{dx}{(x + 1)^{2} + 1} = \tan^{-1}(x + 1) + C.

Worth noting

tan⁡−1(x−1)\tan^{-1}(x - 1) gets the sign of the shift wrong: x2+2x=(x+1)2−1x^{2} + 2x = (x + 1)^{2} - 1.
